Winter has come and brought with it many hair problems. Though the time when your hair is exposed to sun damage and dust has gone, winter means a whole new set of difficulties. Winters means dry and dreary weather that can inflict havoc on your hair if right care is not taken. Cold weather makes your hair brittle, frizzy, prone to damage and takes away moisture with it.
We have made a list of some important tips to avoid great damage that can cause to your hair due to the weather.
1. PROPER CONDITIONING
Proper conditioning is a must during this season. Since the natural oils and shininess of your hair are taken away because of the cold, conditioning them properly becomes important. Maintain the natural moisture and bounciness of your hair during the changed weather, by treating them once in a week to deep conditioning treatment.
After washing them with shampoo, apply conditioner for a few minutes along the length of your hair (avoid scalp). It is advised to end the wash with cold water as cold water seals in the moisture, leaving hair shiny.
2. DRYING YOUR HAIR RIGHT
During winters, never tie up your hair before drying, as it attracts split ends and dandruff. After washing them with lukewarm water, never dry them using a towel because the friction causes hair break. Instead, use a dryer on cool setting. In case you have to go out and want to dry them up quickly on hot setting, remember to hold the dryer at least 15 cm away from the scalp.
3. MAINTAINING THE BOUNCINESS AND MOISTURE
This will replenish the moisture that has faded away. You can also apply honey from the roots of your hair to the tips for getting shiny hair back. Cover them up afterwards with a shower cap or towel and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water later.
4. CONTROLLING FRIZZ
Frizzy hair is your ultimate enemy during cold weather. Wearing caps, scarves or hoodies make your hair turn frizzy and mess. To handle this problem, remember to wash them with lukewarm water (not hot) and use a vented hair brush that has a combination of plastic and boar bristles. After washing them, apply conditioner to keep them silky and smooth.
5. FIGHTING FLAKES
Winter means dry, itchy and unhealthy scalp because of the dry weather. Many people face dandruff which ultimately leads to hair fall. But this can be treated easily. Many dandruff control shampoos are available in the market and there are also some home made methods to avoid it. You can use olive oil and coconut oil mixture to avoid dandruff.
Mix coconut oil, lemon juice and olive oil, one tablespoon each. Apply it to the affected area and rinse it off after 20-30 minutes.
Follow the above tips and take a good care of your hair this season.
