This Is What Sleeping Does To Your Body…

According to a new study, the pressure of being available on social networking sites all day long leads to poorer sleep quality as well as an increased risk of depression and anxiety in teens.

In a recent study on the use of social networking sites by the teenagers, it was observed that teenagers are most active during the nighttime. Even if they are not busy in chatting with anyone, they simply scroll down through their accounts on social networking sites. Even scientists don’t know the exact reason why our body needs a specific number of hours daily. But we all are much aware of the negative effects on our body due to lack of sleep.

Insufficient sleep increases the risk of obesity, depression, stress and anxiety. It not only affects us internally but this is the reason of dark circles also. The day we get less sleep we get cranky.

Lowers the risk of heart disease and stroke

Of all the reasons to get a good night’s sleep, protecting your heart might not be on the top of mind. But if it is not, it should be. A survey conducted by European Heart Journal performed their research on almost 475,000 people and found that short sleepers had 48% more risk of dying from heart disease (CHD). A sound sleep is essential for a healthy heart. People who sleep less have a higher risk of heart diseases and strokes.

Stress reduction

Your body needs sleep to survive. When you sleep, your brain takes that time to clean out the build-up of brain junk you accumulate during your waking hours. Sleep is pretty much necessary for your body’s mental street-cleaners to come out and do their work. Thus it helps in combating the stress.

Prevents wrinkles

Getting adequate sleep can do wonders to your skin. Good sleep prevents wrinkles and dark circles from appearing on your skin. Skin makes new collagen when you sleep. More collagen means skin is plumper and less likely to wrinkle, which helps in the repair process of the skin.

Helps in fighting obesity

Good sleep helps to increase metabolism and thus avoid gaining extra weight. During sleep, your body burns fat which prevents you from getting fat. Researchers have found that sleep-deprived people don’t have an increased appetite but still gain fat.

A glowing complexion

If you see someone with those red rosy cheeks and you wonder how they have those natural red rosy cheeks. You would be surprised to know that it is no result of makeup. It is because of adequate sound sleep they take. Good sleep increases the blood flow in your body, thus bringing that glow on your face.

It prevents dark circles and wrinkles. While you are sleeping, your body repairs itself. Old cells are replaced and new cells are produced.

Furthermore, hormonal and metabolic changes in the body and skin are made during sleep. A sound sleep is incredibly important to our body.

Along with nutrition and exercise, good sleep is one of the pillars of health. You can not achieve optimal health without taking much sleep.
